Comprised of experienced, knowledgeable and talented teachers and coaches, Optimum Hockey Academy provides a motivated staff that strives for excellence on a daily basis. Our staff shares a passion for developing the habits and character traits that enables student athletes to excel both on the ice and in their everyday life away from the game. Moreover, Optimum’s program offers a culture that develops model citizens and student athletes that make an impact in the community.

Alex Kim
Director of Hockey Operations, Co-Founder
A Southern California native, Kim grew up playing for the Jr. Ducks and Jr. Kings AAA programs. Following a rookie season with the USHL’s Des Moines Buccaneers, Kim played collegiately at Miami of Ohio University and Colorado College while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. Kim also participated in the 1998 World Junior Summer Challenge for Team USA and the Four Nations Cup for the USHL during the 1999-2000 season. After college, Kim played eleven seasons of professional hockey in the AHL, ECHL, Europe and Asia.
Kim currently serves as the Director of Player Personnel for the Anaheim Jr. Ducks and will be entering his seventh season as head of coach of the 16AAA program.
Under Kim’s leadership, the Jr. Ducks 16AAA program has advanced to the USA Hockey National Tournament in four of the last five years. Additionally, more than 40 players have progressed onto Major Junior and Junior A programs. Over 20+ players from Kim’s teams have made NCAA Division 1 commitments and two have been selected in the NHL Draft and multiple players have represented USA Hockey in international competition. He also has trained current NHL players - Matt Nieto (San Jose), Matt Tennyson (Nashville), Jason Robertson (Dallas), Nick Robertson (Toronto), and Chase Deleo (New Jersey).

Craig Johnson
Director of Hockey Development, Co-Founder
A product of Minnesota high school hockey’s Hill-Murray School, Johnson went on to play college hockey at the University of Minnesota. Following NCAA career, Johnson spent fourteen years playing professionally, including ten seasons in the NHL with the Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals. Johnson represented Team USA in international competition as well, including the 1994 Olympic Games, the 1991 World Junior Championships and the World Championships in 1993, 1996, 1999 and 2003.
Johnson is now part of Los Angeles Kings Development Staff and also serves as the Director of Coaches for the Anaheim Jr. Ducks. Johnson’s focus on player development, technical skill, and speed training has enabled youth players to advance to higher level competition in leagues such as the USHL, NCAA, U.S. National Development Team, and Team USA. Johnson’s NCAA, NHL and Olympic career has exposed him to some of the most reputable minds in the sport including coaches such as Mike Babcock, Andy Murray, Larry Robinson and Pat Quinn. Johnson endeavors to impart the valuable training and life lessons he received from his mentors to the student-athletes at Optimum Hockey Academy.

Scot Prohaska
Director of Strength & Conditioning
Scot Prohaska, owner of Pro Code, is a nationally recognized sports and executive performance consultant. Scot specializes in elevating performance and developing the careers of elite athletes. His blend of world-class knowledge, research, in conjunction with creative application of an artist ensures there are no “cookie-cutter” programs or diagnostic work for his clients.
Using his unique model of the 6 Lanes of Performance, Scot trains his athletes with proven and innovative methods. He carefully evaluates each client and develops a specific program to address individual needs and opportunities, which includes nutrition and lifestyle. He is at the forefront of the newest techniques and discipline, allowing all his clients to maximize their fullest potentials by giving them the tools necessary to compete at the top levels of their field.
Scot trains professional athletes and celebrities including NHL players Freddy Anderson, Chase De Leo, Brendan Lemieux, Michael Peca, Dwayne Roloson; NFL players Shea McClellin, Blake Bortles, Troy Niklas, Wes Horton, Nick Vannett and many, many more.

Jean Labbe
Director of Player Personnel
Coach Labbé’s experience includes Director of 8U hockey, Assistant Director for A/BB/B hockey for the Jr Ducks, and Head Varsity Coach and Coaching Director for the Capistrano Coyotes High School Hockey Program. As a coach in Southern California for over 15 years, Labbé has led several teams to SCAHA and CAHA Championships and taken 4 teams to the USA Hockey National Tournament. As a Varsity Hockey Coach he helped lead his teams to win 4 ADHSHL Championships. The development and exposure Labbé has provided for his players through the years has helped them reach the NCAA ranks and beyond. A native of Montreal Canada, Labbé grew up playing AAA hockey for the Lac St Louis Selects. Labbé went on to attend Prep School at Hebron Academy in Maine, winning 2 New England Championships. After Prep School Labbé played NCAA hockey at Connecticut College where he earned First Team All ECAC honors as well as the Connecticut College award for leadership in men’s athletics. After college Labbé worked for the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL before turning his focus to coaching hockey full time.

Sasha Voloshin
Skills Coach
A California native, Sasha played hockey in California until his 16AAA year. He went on to play prep school hockey at Milton Academy in Massachusetts and then NCAA at Williams College. Following Williams, he received his J.D. from Duke University School of Law. Serving as Assistant Coach for Jr. Ducks 16AAA, Head Coach for the Rancho Santa Margarita High School D3 Team and assistant coach for The University of Southern California Club Hockey Program, Sasha will be a valuable contributor and role model to our players.
